Christmas in July

Christmas in July was the theme of Pat's Saturday Night challenge. And let me remind you that it was 95 degrees and humidity at 68 percent the day I made these cards. I kept singing Jingle Bells trying to convince myself it was 30 degrees outside but it just didn't work. Maybe that is the reason that I wasn't too pleased with my first attempt, and then the second didn't turn out like I envisioned it would. I think it was just one of those weeks, when there was no creativity running through my veins. But here are pictures of both of my attempts. Thanks Pat, for having the challenge to look forward to each week.

Emily's Birthday

Today would have been my friend Emily's Birthday. But to family and friends it IS still her birthday. We keep her alive through memories and always in our hearts. Last year I showed you her memory garden that can be seen here. All the same flowers are blooming, so please go visit again. There is one exception, I have a new flower added, because of a special friend Janet, that contacted her friend, Dick Henley, that owns and operates Poplar Creek Perennials. He graciously gave to me a day Lily named Rose Emily.

I petted and talked to the bulbs, and could not wait for her to bloom. She finally did. Here she is in all her beauty. See the yellow center, to me it symbolizes the light that Emily walked into. Thank you Dick, Janet, and thank you Emily for allowing me to know and love you. And to God who has blessed me with all the special friends I have in my life.

4th of July Challenge

It is time to post my entry for Southern Breezes, Sat. night challenge. This week it was to make something patriotic. Remember when we were growing up our Mothers would take Queen Annes lace, and put them in colored water, and we thought she was a magician to be able to do this. Well I tried making red, white, and blue for a holiday bouquet. The blue soaked it up almost instantly. But the red still has a lot more color to absorb. While blogging last week, I came across a post where someone had taken Life Savors, covered the wrappers with patriotic papers and made firecrackers out of them. Can you believe I could not find a roll of Life Savors in any of the stores. I settled for these big and small rolls of Smarties. They worked out better, because they had the end twisted, so I did not have to make a fuse to put on it. The boxes I found on someones blog too. I am sorry I cannot give the credit to the right people. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy 4th of July.

Saturday Night

We had a busy weekend. There was a reunion and then on Saturday night a Retirement Party for a friend of ours. The invitation said no gifts, but I wanted take a little something. This is what I came up with. I can't remember the name of the paper, but it came from a pack I picked up at Big Lots. I made the tin and put another little first aid kit in it. Since I had plenty of the card stock left over, I just made a matching card. Thanks for looking. Can you believe it is almost July???? I can't.

That's What Friends (Family) Are For

I have some special friends whose parents adopted me into their family about 20 years ago. They always include me and Allan in all the get together's and anything that is going on. Well Becky and Jeff have been saving all their Altoid Tins for me. And I mean Jeff goes through a bunch of them. I think altering these tins is my favorite paper crafting project, and they make it very economical for me. So I figured it was about time, I made them something with them. They ride Harleys so I tried to incorporate that into their altered tins. This is what I came up with. I made little first aid kits for them to put in the saddle bags. We all know there is limited space on a bike to store things. I included band aids, anti-itch cram, alcohol prep pads, pain reliever, neosporin, and anti acids, and you can always use chap stick. I printed out the Biker's Prayer and put it on the inside of the lid. We want them to stay safe. On Becky's tin, I added a little bow to the front. The last picture is of Becky and Jeff in Hawaii on a Biker's Get- A- Way.
